Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most complex but popular poker variations. It is a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites action from all levels of players. This is the primary reason why a once obscure variation, has expanded in popularity so rapidly.
Omaha/8 starts just like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to each player. A round of betting ensues in which gamblers can wager, check, or fold. 3 cards are given out, this is called the flop. Another round of wagering ensues. Once all the players have in turn called or folded, another card is flipped on the turn. an additional round of wagering follows at which point the river card is flipped. The entrants will have to put together the best high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is where some entrants often get baffled. Contrasted to Texas Holdem, where the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player has to use exactly three cards from the board, and precisely two hole cards. No more, no less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot can be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It’s the best possible hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the identical approach in just about all poker games.
The lower hand is more difficult, but certainly opens up the play. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that might be made, with the lowest value being A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and below. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there’s no lower hand available, the higher hand takes the whole pot.
It may seem complicated at the outset, after a few rounds you will be agile enough to get the fundamental subtleties of the game easily enough. Seeing as you have people betting for the low and wagering for the high, and since such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha/8 provides an exciting range of betting options and owing to the fact that you have several individuals shooting for the high hand, and several shooting for the low. If you enjoy a game with a lot of outs and actions, it is worth your time to compete in Omaha 8 or better.
