Poker has become world acclaimed as of late, with televised events and celebrity poker game shows. Its popularity, though, arcs back quite a bit farther than its TV scores. Over the years several types on the earliest poker game have been developed, including some games that are not quite poker anymore. Caribbean stud poker is 1 of these games. Regardless of the name, Caribbean stud poker is more closely resembling vingt-et-un than old guard poker, in that the gamblers bet against the casino rather than the other players. The winning hands, are the established poker hands. There is no concealment or other types of concealment. In Caribbean stud poker, you are required to ante up prior to the croupier announcing "No more wagers." At that point, both you and the bank and of course all of the other gamblers are given 5 cards each. After you have observed your hand and the dealer’s 1st card, you must in turn make a call bet or give up. The call bet’s amount is akin to your beginning ante, meaning that the stakes will have increased two fold. Bowing out means that your wager goes directly to the casino. After the bet is the face off. If the bank doesn’t have ace/king or greater, your bet is returned, plus an amount in accordance with the initial bet. If the dealer has a hand with ace/king or greater, you succeed if your hand is greater than the bank’s hand. The dealer pays out money even with your ante and controlled expectations on your call wager. These expectations are:
- Equal for a pair or high card
- 2-1 for two pairs
- 3-1 for 3 of a kind
- four to one for a straight
- 5-1 for a flush
- 7-1 for a full house
- twenty to one for a four of a kind
- fifty to one for a straight flush
- one hundred to one for a royal flush
