Howard Lederer lived in a family of 5 where he liked playing various card games when he was young. After finishing high school, Howard made a decision to put college on hold for a bit and relocated to New York City to compete in some formidable chess. While competing in chess, he was introduced to a poker game taking place in the back of the room. Howard’s initial two years were difficult as he would play many hours and fail to win a majority of the time. He made some additional money by becoming an runner for the poker players. He judged he could better his game by analyzing his life away from poker. He brought about an attempt to get more rest and focus even more on poker.

The actual improvement in his game began when he began playing at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the best gamblers would frequently wager against one another. Howard had access into several of the foremost minds in chess. With their assistance, Howard Lederer would sharpen his cunning thinking techniques. He used these strategic concepts in the game of No-Limit texas hold’em.

He also helped his sibling Annie Duke master the game of poker. Annie was a great student of the game as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the correct decision. Howard told Annie Duke to head out to Vegas and play in the WSOP competition. She is one of the best female players the poker arena today. Howard Lederer moved to Las Vegas in 1993 and played cash games for the successive 10 years. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, he made the decision to participate in more tournaments.
