Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only participant to achieve closing poker table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He secured a large pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest gamblers around the world. While betting on internet poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. Gus frequently participates in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus usually buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He waits for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I accept that Hansen is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to play at the table with the min buy-in.
Playing for the minimum takes almost all of the skill out of deep stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be 1 of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full dollar value. I believe television can alter our view of the real world every now and then. The best players anywhere in the world might be players you have never heard of. Gus can be seen betting on net poker on Full Tilt. He normally plays in big stakes omaha hold’em and Holdem. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his talents in cash rounds?
